The Telegraph has learned that US President-elect Donald Trump is preparing to appoint a mediator between Ukraine and Russia.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to The Telegraph.
The new US President Donald Trump plans to appoint a special representative to mediate between Ukraine and Russia, and negotiations could start as early as December.
While Trump has not yet specified the details of his approach to ending the war, his ally J.D. Vance, whom he intends to appoint as vice president, has proposed a ceasefire along the front line, leaving the occupied territories under Russian control. As part of this initiative, Ukraine would have to abandon its desire to join NATO.
The publication emphasizes that there is no guarantee that Russia will agree to such a plan, since the Kremlin is seeking to further expand its control over Ukrainian territories.
«Kiev fears that Vladimir Putin will demand more land than he has now, Ukraine will refuse, and Trump will allow Russia to continue its offensive,» the article says.
In the event of a temporary freeze in the conflict, an external force will be needed to guarantee the observance of the ceasefire. However, the OSCE mission in Donbas in 2014-2015 did not cope with this effectively.
The Telegraph notes that Trump may insist on negotiations, threatening to cut off all American aid if Ukraine and Europe do not support his plan.
Recall that it was previously reported that the date of the ceasefire in Ukraine: Tusk said when the US can be expected to make a statement.
