The US National Security Council's Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said that the US President Joe Biden's Administration is committed to Ukraine's victory in the war with Russia and wants to help in this.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Newsme.
However, he noted that inviting Ukraine to NATO membership is not a priority for Washington.
“We've been very clear. President Biden has made it clear that NATO membership is in Ukraine's future. There's no doubt about that. We'll work with Ukraine on its path, but the priority is “making sure that Ukraine can win this war,” Kirby said.
That's why the Biden administration wants to increase aid to Ukraine and make sure Ukraine has what it needs on the battlefield, he said. In addition, Kirby added, Washington and Kyiv are working on long-term bilateral security agreements to improve Ukraine's defense industrial base and make sure Ukraine has the weapons it needs even when the war is over.
«Because no matter how it happens, Ukraine will still have a long border with Russia, with the latter's potential for aggression. Kyiv needs to be sure it can protect itself and its citizens,», — he explained.
The White House spokesman also noted that the US is working with Ukraine to implement reforms “that any NATO candidate needs.”
«I can't say more right now. We need to focus on helping Ukraine win on the battlefield,— John Kirby concluded.
It also became known that Biden is preparing a new proposal to Trump on Ukraine: Sullivan warned what it is about.
