Over time, a characteristic smell, often called senile, may appear in the homes of elderly people and from them themselves.
This is reported by “URA-Inform” with reference to Radiotrek.
It is noted that the specific smell of old age can appear in a person or his home after 40 years, and not during aging. However, this phenomenon is mistakenly associated with insufficient hygiene or unkempt housing. Scientists have found out the real reason for this phenomenon.
Research has shown that as we age, our skin produces a chemical called 2-nonenal, an unsaturated aldehyde with a greasy, grassy scent. This substance is formed as a result of the oxidation of omega-7 unsaturated fatty acids. Over the years, the content of 2-nonenal increases, which leads to the appearance of the characteristic aroma.
“Around age 40, in both men and women, the skin begins to produce more fatty acids as its natural antioxidant defenses begin to gradually deteriorate and decline,” the experts explained.
Scientists say that to get rid of the smell of old age and minimize its occurrence, you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle and hygiene – add regular exercise, quit smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, eat right, maintain water balance, and maintain oral hygiene.
And one Japanese brand specializing in skin care claims to have found a plant-based solution to combat this odor. Their formula is based on a combination of persimmon extract and green tea.
The tannins contained in persimmon extract effectively break down and remove 2-nonenal from the skin. In turn, antioxidants from green tea neutralize toxins and prolong the deodorizing effect, helping to get rid of unpleasant odors.
Recall that earlier it was reported how to easily get rid of stumps on the site: an effective method has been named.
