The Most Easily Hacked Passwords Have Been Named: Check If Yours Is on This List

Twitter LinkedIn

Manager passwords NordPass has released its annual list of the most popular passwords.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Verge.

The password “123456” has once again become the leader. This combination of numbers has topped the rating five times in the six years of the study, with the exception of 2022, when “password” took first place.

The analysis shows that people often don’t think about security when creating passwords. Some prefer simple phrases like “iloveyou” or indicate interests like “pokemon,” “minecraft,” or “naruto.” Names like “michelle” and “ashley” are also popular.

Interestingly, passwords vary by country. In the UK, “liverpool” tops the list, while in Australia, it’s “lizottes” (the name of a restaurant). In Finland and Hungary, the top spots go to “salasana” and “jelszo,” which translates as “password.”

The list is based on an analysis of 2.5 TB of open-source data, including data found on the darknet. Most popular passwords can be cracked in a split second. If your password matches one of them, you should immediately change it to a more complex one.
