American ecologist Paul Rosoli decided to conduct a shocking experiment: he allowed a giant anaconda to try to swallow him alive.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Tsn.
The extreme stunt was filmed for a Discovery Channel documentary called Eaten Alive. The film was reportedly intended as a way to raise awareness of the destruction of the Amazon rainforest. Rosoli believed the outrageous act would make viewers think about conservation.
Rosoli traveled to remote areas of the Amazon to find the green anaconda, the world's heaviest snake, which can eat large animals, including jaguars. Although there are no recorded cases of anacondas eating humans, the experiment was risky. To protect himself, Rosoli donned a special carbon fiber suit equipped with cameras, a microphone, and an oxygen supply.
The ecologist covered himself in pig blood to attract the snake, and slowly approached it on all fours. However, the stunt didn't go quite as planned. Instead of swallowing Rosoli right away, the anaconda decided to play with its meal and began to coil around him.
«She's coiled around me,« he can be heard telling the team. »She's pinned my arms. She knows I can't do anything.»
An hour later, Rosoli was forced to stop the experiment because the snake was in danger of breaking his arm:
«The anaconda lifted my arm to a position where its full force was coming from my open hand.… I felt the bone give. And when I got to the point where I felt like it was going to break, I had to abandon the stunt.»
Reaction and Criticism
After the film's release, many accused the project of manipulation and animal cruelty. Critics claimed that it was misleading viewers and using the stunt for sensationalism. Rosoli himself defended his idea, claiming that he wanted to draw attention to the destruction of the rainforest and raise funds for its protection.
