Restoring stable operation of the Ukrainian energy system after massive attacks by Russia will require from 10 to 14 days.
This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to RBC-Ukraine.
This was stated by the director of energy and infrastructure programs of the Razumkov Center, Vladimir Omelchenko, stressing that forecasts of a faster recovery are unrealistic.
“Restoring complex infrastructure requires not only time, but also significant resources, as well as a stable situation at the sites where repair work is being carried out,” the expert explained.
According to experts at the Razumkov Center, restoration work is complicated by several key factors:
- equipment shortages: many critical infrastructure facilities require replacement of transformers, high-voltage lines and other equipment, the delivery of which takes weeks or even months;
- logistical problems: some repair crews are unable to quickly access damaged facilities due to ongoing hostilities and damage to road infrastructure;
- targeted attacks: Russia continues to strike key energy facilities, which slows down or completely nullifies efforts to restore the system.
According to Vladimir Omelchenko, Russia is seeking to completely destroy the Ukrainian energy system by the New Year holidays.
“Moscow’s goal is obvious – to deprive Ukrainians of access to electricity, heat and water during the coldest period of the year, creating pressure on the civilian population and destabilizing the economic situation,” the expert said.
