How Trump Can Influence Russia: Expert Explains Methods of Pressure on Putin

Political scientist Vladimir Fesenko expressed the opinion that a reduction in the price of oil could become one of the key ways to put pressure on Russia to end the war.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Freedom.

He stressed that this pressure should be strengthened by supporting Ukraine, primarily through the supply of weapons that will help not only defend itself, but also strike at Russian territory.

Fesenko noted that Donald Trump's team did not reject the decision of the Joe Biden administration to lift restrictions on the use of missiles capable of striking Russian targets. This decision, in his opinion, strengthens Trump's negotiating position, providing additional leverage on the Kremlin.

The political scientist believes that the Kremlin is ready for negotiations, but insists on conditions that are unacceptable for Ukraine. In order to achieve peace, he said, it is necessary to increase military support for Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia in response to its threats. He also suggested that the United States could deploy medium-range missiles on its borders with Russia, which was the reason for negotiations to remove such missiles during the Cold War.

“Putin is hinting at this now, too, which suggests that he fears that America could also counter Russia with its medium-range missiles. And I think that the Americans are capable of quickly creating the same weapons that Putin is threatening. It is still a question of how ready and perfect they are, but it is quite possible that the United States either has such analogues or can have them. And this will be a similar threat to Russia,” the political scientist said.

Fesenko stressed the importance of economic pressure, especially through influence on the global oil market, in order to reduce prices. According to him, this will be beneficial to the United States, given the position of Trump, who has made lowering oil prices part of his program. The drop in oil prices, as the expert noted, could seriously weaken Russia, since petrodollars are the main source of financing its military actions against Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Russia has thrown a tantrum over Erdogan: they are threatening Turkey with a “worthy response.”
