Why do men have a harder time with colds: doctors answer the question

Twitter LinkedIn

Recent studies confirmed that men suffer from colds more often and more severely than women.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to the Telegram channel “Blog about health”.

How It turned out that the main reason for the above-mentioned difference is the difference in the activity of lymphocytes – cells of the immune system that protect the body from pathogenic microbes. In women, due to the influence of the hormone estrogen, the activity of lymphocytes is significantly higher.

Estrogens play a key role in maintaining the immune defense by stimulating the synthesis of immune cells and increasing their efficiency. This explains why women recover more quickly from infectious diseases, including colds.

Moreover, estrogens have anti-inflammatory properties, which helps the body cope more effectively with infections and reduce the likelihood of complications.

Such discoveries emphasize the importance of an individual approach to treating diseases, taking into account the hormonal background of patients. This knowledge can be useful in developing new methods of treatment and prevention of infections adapted to the characteristics of the male and female body.

Meanwhile, doctors also answered the question of how to recognize a lack of vitamins in the body.
