History
The fear of Friday the 13th has historical roots. Supposedly, witches, ghouls and various evil spirits gathered on this day, and Satan himself ran the show. It is believed that it was on this day that Adam and Eve tasted the forbidden fruit, Cain killed Abel, and Jesus Christ was crucified.
What's so scary about the number 13?
According to the symbolism of numbers, 12 is considered to be the number of cosmic order and salvation. In many mythopoetic systems of the world, the number 12 was a symbol of the 12 constellations of the Zodiac, a symbol of perfection.
Biblical Jerusalem is permeated with the symbolism of the number 12 (twelve gates, twelve apostles). In the Apocalypse – 12 precious stones. In Greece and Rome, there were also 12 supreme gods. In the epic of the Middle Ages, there are 12 knights of the Round Table.
Christians prepared 12 dishes for Christmas. Girls put the same amount of herbs under their pillows on Ivan Kupala. Images of 12 brother-months appear in folklore.
But add one more “extra” unit – and the number becomes “the devil's dozen”. For many peoples, this number symbolized death and at the same time the beginning of a new life. Why? Because it violated the numerical integrity, and therefore was dangerous, evil.
In American skyscrapers, the 12th floor is followed by the 14th floor, there are no thirteenth rooms in hotels, and there are no sea or air flights with such numbers.
In planes of airlines in Germany, Austria and Scandinavia, there is neither a row nor a seat with the number 13. In England, they are not even in movie theaters. People try not to plan important matters or long trips on the thirteenth.
Signs and superstitions about Friday the 13th
Friday the 13th is a day when energy flows change and the boundaries between worlds become thinner. This does not mean that the day necessarily brings misfortune, but it can indeed be full of various events.
On this day, it is important to be more attentive to your thoughts, words and actions. Avoid conflicts, do not make hasty decisions, keep your emotions under control. You cannot go on a trip, since such a road will be full of troubles. There are many accidents on this day, so drivers should be especially careful behind the wheel.
Plants planted on Friday the 13th will not grow and bear fruit. You should not look for a job or go to an interview on this day. On this day, it is not advisable to conclude important deals or borrow money.
However, psychologists note that failures can rain down on a person due to self-hypnosis, fear and “fixation” on troubles. Believe that only good news and pleasant events await you on this day, and so it will be.
