How sad is the situation with desertion in the Armed Forces of Ukraine: an insider revealed statistics

General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is sounding the alarm: since autumn 2024, the number of desertions has increased fivefold.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to the Resident Telegram channel.

“Such statistics raise serious concerns, especially against the background of the current relaxation of punishments for those who left their unit without permission. According to the data, only 10% of deserters “are returning to duty, which has a negative impact on the combat capability of the units,” the statement began.

Then it was added that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, insists on drastic measures. He proposes to abolish the existing regulations and introduce strict penalties of up to 12 years of imprisonment.

In his opinion, this is the only way to stop mass desertion and restore discipline to the troops.

Experts, in in turn, note that the increased penalties should be accompanied by a comprehensive approach to solving the problem. This includes improving service conditions, psychological support and increasing the motivation of military personnel.

In addition, the insider warned that Zelensky has a new requirement for Syrsky.
