German analysts note that Vladimir Putin's press conference held on December 19, 2024, was aimed at strengthening his influence both within Russia and abroad

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Dw.

Experts from the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) drew attention to the Russian leader's emphasis on the topic of war with Ukraine, as well as the repetition of his maximalist demands.

Putin reiterated the need for Ukraine to have a neutral status, abandon NATO and disarm the country, which would effectively mean losing its sovereignty. These statements, according to expert Stefan Meister, indicate that the Russian leader does not plan to soften his position.

Meister noted that Putin's rhetoric includes references to military successes and a “challenge” to Western missile defense systems, which is likely related to preparations for Donald Trump's possible return to the White House. The expert believes that Putin is counting on a revision of US policy towards Russia and Ukraine, which could force Kyiv to make concessions.

According to experts, the Kremlin is seeking to seize as much territory in eastern Ukraine as possible to strengthen its position before potential negotiations. However, these successes are achieved at the cost of significant losses for the Russian army, especially in Donbas.

DGAP experts believe that further developments depend on the policy of the new US administration. If Trump takes a softer stance towards Russia, this could play into the hands of the Kremlin. However, if he takes a tough approach, he could increase pressure on Moscow even more than current President Joe Biden.

Experts view Putin's press conference as an important element of his strategy aimed at manipulating international relations and preparing for possible changes in the global political arena.

At the same time, Zelensky said when peace with Russia will be achieved: an important condition has been named.
