Mango can be grown at home from a seed: step-by-step instructions

Twitter LinkedIn

Mango can be grown at home, but you shouldn't expect fruits from a plant grown from a seed. This will require grafting. However, a mango tree without fruits will be a wonderful decorative element for a spacious interior.

This is reported by “URA-Inform” with reference to Tsn.

How to grow a mango from a seed

  1. Preparing the seed:
Cut a ripe mango, remove the pit and clean it from the pulp. Rinse thoroughly with water. To ensure successful germination, cut the pit with a knife, carefully removing the seeds. If this is not possible right away, you can soak it in water for several days, changing the liquid daily, or wrap it in a damp cloth, maintaining its moisture.
  2. Disinfection of seeds:
The extracted seeds must be disinfected with a biofungicide or a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
  3. Germination:
The seeds can be immediately planted in prepared soil or left in a humid environment for several days to stimulate growth.

Choosing a container and soil

Planting mango

Make a hole on the surface of the soil, where you will plant the sprouted seeds with the roots down. If the seeds have not been pre-sprouted, install the pit with the long side. Water the soil and place the pot in a warm place, protected from direct sunlight. To speed up growth, create greenhouse conditions by covering the container with plastic wrap or a jar, but do not forget to air it for 15 minutes daily.

Plant care

The mango tree grows quickly. Young leaves initially have a purple tint, but eventually turn green. Basic care rules:

When the tree reaches a height of 1.5 meters, begin annual spring pruning. Replant young plants once a year, then once every three years.

Following these recommendations, you will be able to grow a beautiful mango tree that will become a real decoration for your home.
