Western Europe, until recently which demonstrated unity in support of Ukraine, is now facing growing doubts.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to The Guardian.

According to a YouGov study, over the past year, seven leading support for continuing aid to Ukraine “until victory” has dropped significantly in European countries. The biggest declines have been seen in Germany, France, Italy and Spain, where a significant portion of the population is in favor of ending the war through negotiations.

For example, In Germany, 45% of respondents support the negotiation process, while only 28% are in favor of continuing aid to Ukraine. In France, the gap is 43% to 23%, in Italy, 55% to 15%, and in Spain, 46% to 25%.

The reasons for this change in sentiment lie in the fatigue of European citizens from the protracted conflict, economic difficulties and the energy crisis. In addition, the growing cost of military aid to Ukraine is becoming the subject of criticism within the EU.

In the UK, where support for Ukraine was previously strongest, enthusiasm is also waning. Today, supporters of continued aid only slightly outnumber those in favour of negotiations (36 % versus 34%).

Moreover, it became known what unpopular decisions await Ukrainians.
