Ukrainians in the evening Wednesday, January 1, could see a picturesque natural phenomenon.
This was reported by “URA-Inform” with reference to “Ukrhydrometeorological center”.
During sunset, the sky acquired pink-violet shades . Users shared amazing photos on social networks.
Forecasters explained that this phenomenon is called purple light. It occurs because the sun's rays pass through a thick layer of the atmosphere when the sun is low above the horizon. Dust particles or moisture in the air scatters short-wave light, and long-wave, predominantly red and violet colors, reach us.
“Look at the sky during moments like these – it's nature giving us its most vibrant palette of colors,” — they call in the message.
The “Ukrhydrometeorological center” added that such a phenomenon can often be seen in wet and clear weather.
