Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made an important statement about the impossibility of holding elections during a war.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to the Ukrainian Telegram news service.

Zelensky emphasized that the above-mentioned step could lead to a split in society, since under martial law, the main task remains maintaining national unity and security.

«We are ready to hold elections immediately after the end of the war, in 90 days, but this is impossible now. First of all, we need to think about the safety of our citizens,» Zelensky noted.

Martial law requires maximum consolidation of resources and efforts, and holding elections in conditions of active hostilities carries significant risks. Among them:

A split in society.

In the context of a constant threat from the aggressor, any internal discord can weaken the country. Elections can be used by hostile forces to increase disinformation and propaganda.

Technical difficulties.

Organizing voting in regions that are subject to shelling or in temporarily occupied territories is almost impossible. It is also necessary to take into account the security of election commissions.

Ethical aspects.

Holding elections during a period of loss and suffering of citizens can cause disapproval in society. Many voters will find it difficult to participate in this process due to emotional stress.

The President also noted that the restoration of democratic institutions after the war will be an important stage in the revival of Ukraine. Rebuilding infrastructure, ensuring conditions for voting, and forming new political leaders will all help strengthen citizens' trust in government structures.

In addition, Biden's plans for the last days of his presidency have become known.
