In the USA they insist on elections in Ukraine.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to Reuters.

Donald Trump's special representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, stated that, after the so-called ” “truce” on the front and the introduction of a ceasefire, Ukraine must hold elections, both presidential and parliamentary.

According to Kellogg, the elections should take place even though this is prohibited by Ukrainian law.

“Most democratic countries hold elections during wartime. I think that's very important. I think that's good for democracy. That's the beauty of a strong democracy, that you have more than one person who could potentially run,” he stressed.

At the same time, journalists, citing their own informed sources, said that Trump's peace plan to end the war in Ukraine is still in the development stage and no policy decisions have been made. But Kellogg and other White House officials have been discussing in recent days how to push Ukraine to agree to elections as part of an initial cease-fire with Russia.

“Two people familiar with the Trump administration's discussions said Trump officials are also discussing whether to push for an initial cease-fire before trying to reach a more lasting agreement,” — noted in Reuters.

In addition, the publication's interlocutors noted that if presidential elections were held in Ukraine, the winner could be responsible for negotiations on a long-term pact with Moscow.

Recall that earlier it was reported that Trump made a new statement about ending the war in Ukraine: what serious negotiations are already underway.
