What EU and Ukrainian Armed Forces officials say about Ukraine's prospects after US aid ends

Despite assurances of continued aid to Ukraine, European leaders are increasingly making it clear that they are not prepared to act in this direction without US participation.

According to Euroactiv, Brussels and London are trying to convince Kyiv to restore relations with Washington so as not to be left alone with the Russian threat. Details about Ukraine's prospects are reported by URA-Inform.

In behind-the-scenes talks, European officials stress that Ukraine's future security must be agreed upon with Washington. According to one EU official:

“There was broad agreement on the importance of continuing close cooperation with the United States, particularly in the context of NATO.”

The British Prime Minister and NATO leadership are calling on the Ukrainian authorities to seek ways to engage in dialogue with the new American administration. They believe that in the event of a crisis, the United States should remain the key guarantor of regional security.

British Labour Party leader Kiir Starmer is in talks with Trump's representatives, trying to convince them of the need to support European initiatives, including a possible peacekeeping mission.

Ukraine, for its part, is not going to compromise with Moscow, even if US funding wanes. As military expert Kirill Sazonov noted:

“Without US help, we will last as long as necessary.”

He also stressed that Russia's economy is on the brink of crisis, and therefore there is no point in concluding a hasty peace that could effectively become a capitulation.

The situation remains uncertain, and further developments will depend both on Washington’s position and on Europe’s ability to independently support Kyiv.

We also reported on why Zelensky and Trump have “tense relations” and what to expect from the presidents’ dialogue going forward.
