White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt explained the suspension of military aid to Ukraine by the need to review funding. According to her, the US administration continues to analyze the current situation before making further decisions.
The US position is reported by URA-Inform, citing Fox News.
“The national security adviser told me that they have paused or are reviewing funding for Ukraine, as you've seen, there is a pause in funding… It's a pause for review,” Levitt said on Fox News.
She also noted that Washington had welcomed the latest statements by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about possible negotiations with Russia. Zelensky stressed that Ukraine was “ready to sit down at the negotiating table as soon as possible” in order to achieve “long-term” peace.
The White House sees the statement as a step in the right direction, although the prospects for negotiations remain unclear.
Levitt also mentioned ongoing negotiations on a minerals agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine. However, the specific timing of the document's signing is still unknown.
The question of the future of American support for Kyiv remains open. While the White House studies the situation, the Ukrainian authorities are awaiting a final decision, on which the country's future strategy largely depends.
