The aggressor country Russia is spreading propaganda narratives, accusing Ukrainian military of alleged war crimes in the Kursk region.

This was reported by URA-Inform with reference to ISW.

In particular, as noted by analysts from the American Institute for the Study of War, on March 13, in response to a proposal for a temporary ceasefire between the United States and Ukraine, Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin asked whether Russia should allow Ukrainian troops to leave the Kursk region “after they have committed many crimes against civilians.”

“Russia's Investigative Committee announced on March 12 that it was opening an investigation into alleged Ukrainian 'war crimes' in areas of the Kursk region where heavy fighting took place, and announced the conviction of two Ukrainian soldiers for alleged 'terrorism' and 'war crimes' in the Kursk region on March 14,” the ISW report said.

Analysts also claim that Russian ultra-nationalist publics have recently increasingly repeated Putin's statements and the claims of Russian propaganda media, which accuse Ukrainian forces of “war crimes,” including allegedly executing civilians in the Kursk region. However, according to the Institute's experts, these claims are unfounded.

“Putin likely intends to use this narrative to falsely portray Ukrainian forces as brutal war criminals — as the Kremlin did in late 2021 and 2022 — to justify Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and to spoil or delay discussions about a 30-day ceasefire, especially in contrast to Putin’s efforts to portray himself as a compassionate leader,” the Institute noted.

Recall that earlier it was reported about a truce between Ukraine and the Russian Federation: Sibiga reported what algorithms are already being worked out.
