TwitterLinkedIn

On 25 March 2025, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and 14 ministers of his cabinet officially resigned. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier presented them with their resignation documents after the inaugural session of the new Bundestag. This event marks an important moment in German politics and could have significant consequences for the country's future development.

This was reported by URA-Inform, citing Die Zeit .

Steinmeier thanked Scholz for his decisive action in response to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, calling it “an enormous feat of strength.” However, even though the chancellor and his ministers are no longer de jure in office, coalition talks on a new government have not yet been concluded.

Scholz will remain in office until a new cabinet is appointed, continuing to carry out official duties. However, the caretaker government, despite retaining its powers, is unlikely to make important decisions and will only participate in the most necessary meetings.

The future of the German government is currently uncertain. Coalition talks are expected to be completed before Easter, but the process could take longer, according to CDU and SPD leaders. Key contentious issues such as migration and economic policy remain unresolved, which could make it difficult to form a new cabinet.
