The representative of Norway stressed the importance of this visit, noting that Norway remains a steadfast partner of Ukraine at these critical moments.
“We are here to express Norway's unwavering support and long-term partnership with the people of Ukraine,” said the Norwegian Foreign Minister.
This is not the first time Eide has visited Ukraine, and for Tonje Brenna this visit is the first since the start of the full-scale war. The visit includes meetings with Ukrainian colleagues, as well as an overview of the current results of Norway's assistance to Ukraine.
The minister also noted that during the visit they would discuss Norway's possible contribution to the negotiations taking place in Saudi Arabia. Eide stressed the importance of the negotiators being prepared for manipulation by Russia, and also expressed the opinion that the US had announced an agreement too early, which turned out to be less mutually acceptable than expected.
“Norway can offer Ukraine advice on how to conduct negotiations,” he added.
Eide also noted that active work is currently underway in Europe to monitor a possible agreement. According to him, in recent months there has been extraordinary activity around Ukraine, which indicates the importance of the situation for the entire continent.
