Researchers recently unraveled the mystery of the origin of the Saracen stones that rise into the amazing megalithic structure Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England.

This information was reported by the Express resource, reports URA-Inform.

What did the scientists find?

However, new research conducted by an international team of archaeologists and geologists has led to the conclusion that these massive stones most likely actually come from the West Woods. This opens a new chapter in the history of Stonehenge and provides new clues to understanding its mysterious past.

Professor Mike Parker Pearson, one of the co-authors of this study, said:

«This puts an end to more than 300 years of dispute…West Woods was the closest place to Stonehenge where the largest and most suitable monoliths could be found and transported via a relatively simple route without much difficulty»

Interesting fact

However, Pearson noted that moving such massive stones without the use of modern technology is a truly amazing achievement .

«Most likely, instead of using rollers, these stones were placed on wooden sleds that were dragged along logs that seemed to serve as rails&#187 ;, — the scientist suggested.

These giant Sarsen stones, which weigh between 10 and 30 tons and are about 7 meters high, remain a magnificent example of ancient engineering skills and an enduring symbol of humanity's mysterious past.< /p>
