Germany is planning to purchase Typhon mobile missile launchers from the United States, capable of striking targets at a distance of up to 2,000 kilometers. This was confirmed by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during his visit to Washington. He stated that U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth responded positively to the request, and Washington is now assessing whether it is ready to transfer the systems to Berlin, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to n-tv.

Equipped with high-precision missiles, the Typhon system theoretically has the capacity to reach Russian territory. However, Pistorius emphasized that the launchers will be used strictly for deterrence purposes.

The Typhon system, officially known as the Mid-Range Capability (MRC), is a modern ground-based missile platform developed by the U.S. Army for mid-range strike missions. It is capable of launching Tomahawk cruise missiles, which have a range of up to 2,000 kilometers, as well as SM-6 missiles, which can target both aerial and ground threats at distances of approximately 500 kilometers.

Mounted on a truck chassis, the system includes launchers, a command post, and transport and reloading vehicles. Its mobility allows for rapid deployment to various regions, while its range enables it to strike deep into enemy territory without entering the reach of enemy air defense systems.

The Typhon system has already been deployed in the Philippines. Its deployment in Europe is scheduled for 2026 as part of NATO’s efforts to strengthen regional defense capabilities.
