Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has been deported from Israel after being detained with a group of environmental activists attempting to reach the Gaza Strip as part of a humanitarian convoy. According to Israeli media, the group was reportedly trying to deliver aid to civilians in Gaza but was stopped by Israeli authorities. The incident marks the second time Thunberg has been expelled from the country, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to Times of Israel.

Alongside Thunberg, Israel has deported 79 foreign nationals of various countries. The group includes 28 citizens of France, 27 of Greece, 15 Italians, and 9 Swedes. All detainees are being transported to Greece, from where they will be able to return to their home countries.

According to Times of Israel, 28 Spanish citizens remain in custody in Israel, while another 21 have already returned home.

In total, Israeli authorities have deported 170 foreign citizens who were detained during attempts to “break the blockade” of the Gaza Strip. The activists were reportedly part of several missions aiming to deliver humanitarian aid to the region despite the ongoing Israeli restrictions.
