The boy found dead near Güstrow was the victim of a violent crime, according to preliminary autopsy results. Traces discovered on the body indicate that he suffered physical assault, the Rostock public prosecutor’s office confirmed — reports Baltimore Chronicle citing Spiegel.
Officials stated that forensic findings provided clear evidence of external violence. However, investigators declined to give further details, citing ongoing investigative tactics. “No additional information, particularly regarding the specifics of the evaluation, can be released at this stage for investigative reasons,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
The child’s body was discovered on Tuesday near Klein Upahl. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the victim is eight-year-old Fabian from Güstrow, who has been missing since last Friday, though investigators consider this highly likely. The DNA test results are expected to be available by Friday, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Police units had been searching for Fabian for several days without success before a passerby found the child’s remains in a wooded area approximately 15 kilometers from the boy’s home.
Fabian disappeared on October 10 and was reported missing by his mother that same evening. Early investigations suggested he might have been on his way to visit his father, who lives separately south of Güstrow. Police tracking dogs followed the boy’s scent trail from the Güstrow bus terminal to the area near his father’s home, where the trail eventually vanished again.
