Flood in Sumy region, police on boats rescue people

The spring flood flooded part of the city of Akhtyrka, Sumy region. The police have to use boats to transport people to safety.

“Law enforcement officers on boats provide patrols, deliver people to a safe place and maintain public order on the city streets,” say law enforcement officers.

According to them, the first reports of flooding began to arrive at the Akhtyrsk police duty station after 1:00 am on Monday.

According to residents, the water rose almost a meter, houses and utility rooms were flooded.

Police officers, together with rescuers on boats, are patrolling the streets, collecting people from flooded houses who were unable to leave the disaster area on their own.

The victims are received at the city hospital, and they are also taken to the local hotel and the city executive committee building.

In addition to the police, the State Emergency Service, ambulance and city executive committee teams are working at the scene of the incident. Rescue work continues.

According to the Department of the State Service for Emergency Situations in the Sumy region, private households were flooded on 11 streets of the city. The maximum water level was up to 80 cm; as of 7:00 it had already decreased by 10 cm.

Of the 25 flooded houses, 43 people were evacuated, 6 of whom were temporarily located in the Neftyanik hotel, 1 person was hospitalized in the Akhtyrka Central District Hospital, the rest are with relatives.

In addition, as Sumy.Today reports, Sumy is also suffering from flooding. There, trolleybuses running on routes No. 1 and No. 2 in the direction of Khimprom do not reach their final stops.

Also, due to flooding, trolleybuses cannot travel in the direction of the street. Kharkovskaya – st. Borderline.
