Law enforcement officers are investigating the possible theft of strategic lands of the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant. The Office of the Prosecutor General stated that the suspects are charged with events not from 10 years ago, but from 2020-2021. Prosecutors explained Igor Mazepa’s bail of almost 350 million UAH by saying that the amount of the bail does not have to duplicate the amount of losses (7 million UAH). The prosecutor's office also assures that there is no political motivation or pressure on business in this case.

Prosecutor of the Office of the Prosecutor General, procedural head in the proceedings on the theft of strategic lands of the Kiev Hydroelectric Power Plant Evgeniy Slyota said on the air of the telethon that in the case of the theft of lands of the Kyiv Hydroelectric Power Plant it was reported 12 persons suspected.

Among the suspects is one of the leaders of the Main Directorate of the State GeoCadastre in the Kyiv region. He is in custody. The involvement of other officials in the illegal allocation of plots in the specified territory is being verified.
The prosecutor explained that, according to the Code of Criminal Procedure, law enforcement agencies have the right to detain a suspect without a court order, if there is reason to believe that escape is possible in order to evade criminal liability.
The prosecutor explained that investigators had sufficient grounds to believe that the suspect knew that at the end of last year, in the same proceedings, a group of people was informed of suspicion. 6 of them were taken into custody, 1 person was put on the wanted list. That is why, according to the investigation, the suspect attempted to leave Ukraine on January 18.
He added that the suspects are charged with events not 10 years ago, but 2020-2021. The investigation was launched in 2021 and merged with another, which also concerns the acquisition of lands within the Kyiv hydroelectric power station dam. The combined proceedings were automatically assigned the number of the proceedings started earlier.
Evgeniy Slyota noted that the preventive measure should ensure that the suspect fulfills procedural duties and prevent attempts to hide from the investigation, and the amount of bail should not duplicate the amount of damage< /b>.

The prosecutor emphasized that, given that these persons have significant financial capabilities, and also acquired as a result criminal scheme, numerous movable and immovable property, the appropriate amount of bail has been determined. Let us recall that Igor Mazepa is the founder of the investment company Concorde Capital. He was detained on January 18, 2024 on the border with Poland on suspicion of illegal acquisition of land plots in the Kiev region. < /p>
On January 19, the Pechersky District Court of Kiev sent Igor Mazepa into custody, but also provided an alternative – a bail of UAH 350 million. The case concerns the construction of cottage communities back in 2013.
Igor Mazepa previously criticized economic policy of the current government and called it “war communism,” hinting that new oligarchs are ripening in its midst.
