Romanians pretended to be Ukrainian refugees for benefits in Germany

The fraud was discovered by volunteers when they learned that the “refugees” did not speak Ukrainian.

Ukrainian refugees in Germany – the western regions of Germany pretended to be refugees from Ukraine in order to receive money and housing from the authorities.

As reported by Ukrayinska Pravda with reference to the Romanian media outlet Digi24, there were many Romanian citizens among the scammers. They found aid stations for Ukrainian displaced people, told volunteers that they were running away from the war in Ukraine, and now needed housing and funds.

The deception was exposed when social service employees began asking why the supposed “Ukrainian refugees” did not speak Ukrainian. An investigation was launched, as a result of which thousands of cases were identified when people only wanted to surrender to Ukrainians for the sake of benefits. It is not known whether they were prosecuted.
