Four ex-managers of special police units of the Cherkasy region involved in the dispersal of the Maidan will be tried

We completed a pre-trial investigation against the former leadership of the special forces of the Cherkasy region involved in the dispersal of protesters during the Revolution of Dignity.

“Under the procedural guidance of prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General, an indictment was sent to court against four former heads of units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Cherkasy region,” prosecutors said.

In particular, we are talking about the head of the department of the Public Security Department, commander patrol service battalion, commander of the special battalion of judicial police “Griffin” and deputy commander of the special police company “Berkut”, subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Cherkasy region.

The investigation established that on February 20, 2014, security forces ordered subordinate police officers to forcibly disperse protesters in Cherkassy. While at the scene of the incident, they directly supervised the dispersal.

“In turn, employees of these units, following the illegal instructions of the accused, used unlawful violence against the protesters. As a result, 13 of them suffered bodily injuries of varying degrees of severity “. . The victims’ vehicles were also damaged,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

It is noted that the accused were charged with abuse of power and official authority by a law enforcement officer, committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, as well as illegal obstruction of the organization and conduct of meetings and rallies.
