The US State Department confirmed the use of chemical weapons by the Russians against Ukraine

The US State Department confirmed the fact that the Russians used the banned chemical substance chloropicrin.

This is stated in a message from the US State Department.

“In accordance with the Chemical Weapons Prohibition Act, the US State Department has acknowledged that Russia used the chemical weapon chloropicrin against Ukrainian troops in violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention,” the statement said.

The US State Department also noted, that Russia used riot control chemicals as a method of warfare in Ukraine.

“The use of such chemicals is not an isolated incident and is likely due to the desire of Russian troops to dislodge Ukrainian forces from fortified positions and achieve tactical advantages on the battlefield,” the US Foreign Office emphasized.

In this regard The US State Department imposed sanctions on the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Troops of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Russian Research Institute of Applied Acoustics and the 48th Central Research Institute of the Russian Ministry of Defense, involved in the development of chemical weapons.
