This is the first visit by a senior American official to Ukraine since accepting $60 billion in aid.

According to officials close to the top American diplomat, the purpose of the visit is to “send a powerful calming signal to Ukrainians going through a difficult moment.”
“The secretary’s mission is to explain how assistance will be used to strengthen defense, and how it will then allow us to regain the initiative on the battlefield,” a source in the State Department claims on the basis of anonymity.
