The prosecutor's office is investigating reports of threats to Ukrayinska Pravda journalists

The pre-trial investigation is carried out under Part 2 of Art. 171 of the Criminal Code (influence on a journalist with the aim of preventing him from performing his professional duties) and Part 1 of Art. 345-1 of the Criminal Code (threat of murder, violence against a journalist in connection with the implementation of legitimate professional activities).

The investigation is carried out by investigators from the Shevchenko Police Department, it is under the control of the prosecutor's office.

Earlier, the editorial board of UP issued a statement about threats against journalist Mikhail Tkach. Thus, on May 10, in one of the messengers, the head of the investigation department, Tkach, received a message from the addressee, who introduced himself as Alexander Slobozhenko (the hero of the recent investigation “Unsuitable”), with a proposal to “conclude a settlement” for a monetary reward. The text of the message ends with the words “I do not advise delaying the answer. I also know how to fight.”

On May 11, during the day there were a number of unsuccessful attempts to log into Tkach’s Monobank account by unauthorized persons. The journalist began receiving dozens of calls from unknown numbers and SMS with authorization codes of banking and credit institutions.

On May 13, at least 10 employees of the publication received threatening letters by email.

“We regard these actions as an attempt to influence and intimidate both Mikhail Tkach and other employees of Ukrayinska Pravda.” The editors appeal to law enforcement agencies with a statement about attempts to pressure, threaten and obstruct journalistic activities and asks to identify the sender of these letters,” the editorial office said.
