The prospect of Donald Trump returning to the White House forces preparations to be accelerated.
Peace Summit in Switzerland
Bloomberg, citing American politics, claims that Kyiv wants to hold a second Global Peace Summit before the presidential elections in the United States, which will take place on November 5.
A Ukrainian official, on condition of anonymity, confirmed to reporters that the event should take place before Donald Trump can formalize his return to the White House. Because of the prospect of a Republican victory that could “deprive Ukraine of its advantage,” the Office of the President allegedly “feels the need to hurry.”
Some Western officials emphasize the need for “careful preparation for the summit and a clear definition of goals and expectations.” The key to support for the countries of the Global South and China may be an invitation from Russia – however, Washington supposedly does not have much faith in holding an event with the participation of both sides.
- Previously, the media reported that the second Peace Summit is planned before the end of 2024. This information was confirmed by the Office of the President.
- Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba asserted that “several strong players are vying to host the event.”
- Less than a week after the first Summit, Russia has already begun making attempts to disrupt the second.
