The Russian Federation is developing a system to prevent potential conscripts from fleeing the country in the event of a mobilization announcement

The system is expected to be fully operational before conscription in the fall of 2024.

Last week, Meduza reported that the Russian government was implementing an “information exchange system” between the Ministry of Defense and the Federal Security Service (FSB) to pass information on potential conscripts to the Border Guard to prevent them from fleeing the country.

It is reported that the system should be fully operational before conscription in the fall of 2024.

Every year Russia conducts two conscription calls for compulsory military service and calls up more than 250 thousand personnel for compulsory military service.

Hundreds of thousands of Russians left the country after the announcement of partial mobilization in 2022. These were, in particular, representatives of young people and highly educated people. Their escape had a negative impact on the labor market.

The introduction of this system is likely intended to prevent fewer recurrences of escape during the annual conscription cycle and in the event of the next wave of mobilization.
