Acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy Rostislav Karandeev called the demolition of the historical “house of Evmeniy Zelensky” in the center of Kyiv a cynical violation of the law.
“Unfortunately, this building did not have the legal status of a landmark or a newly identified cultural heritage site, as provided for by monument protection legislation. However, according to the Historical and Architectural Basic Plan of the City of Kyiv, the building is located in the historical area of the city and is recognized as a significant historical building called the “Manor Residential House” of the second half of the 19th century. This status should have protected the house from demolition,” Karandeev wrote on Facebook.
He noted that the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine had not received any project proposals for the specified the building, therefore, was not provided with any approval of the design documentation for either new construction on this site, or the reconstruction of the said building, or its dismantling.
