UP: a cyber attack by Ukrainian intelligence paralyzed the banking and payment systems of Russia

In particular, clients of the largest banks have encountered problems or inability to use online banking and digital services. The cyber attack also led to interruptions in the operation of mobile communications and the Internet.

Yesterday, July 23, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine began paralyzing the work of key banking institutions and payment systems throughout Russia. Ukrayinska Pravda reports this with reference to sources in the department. 

Customers of major banks, such as Sberbank, Alfa Bank, Raiffeisen Bank and VTB, have encountered problems or inability to use online banking and digital services.

< In addition, the work of the national payment systems of Russians - the "SBP Fast Payment System" and the National Payment Card System "NSPK" - was blocked or significantly disrupted.

The cyber attack also affected mobile operators, which led to interruptions in the work of the mobile communications and the Internet: Beeline, MegaFon, Tele2 and Rostelecom were affected.

Russian authorities acknowledged the cyberattack, calling it the work of “politically motivated hackers.”
