A saboteur who set fire to railway facilities was caught in Cherkasy Oblast <>> and a 20-year-old saboteur who set fire to railway and power facilities for money was detained.</p>
<p>This was reported by the SBU and the Prosecutor General's Office.</p>
<p>From May to July 2024, a 20-year-old man received instructions via messenger to set fire to transformer substations and distribution cabinets of the railway, which are of important national economic and defense significance. The arson attacks were to be carried out to weaken the state's logistics under martial law. </p>
<p>The attacker tried to destroy 8 electrical substations and one relay cabinet in different places in the Uman district.</p>
<p>Thus, the enemy planned to de-energize most of the community and block rail traffic in the region.</p>
<p>In order to carry out the hostile task, the suspect first established the locations of the “necessary” energy facilities and prepared the tools to commit the crime.</p>

At the final stage of the special operation, SBU officers detained the saboteur “red-handed” when he was trying to destroy a new energy facility.

During the search, a canister of gasoline and a mobile phone with evidence of his correspondence with the aggressor were found on the detainee.

Security Service investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Part 2 of Article 113 (sabotage committed under martial law);
  • Part 2 of Article 194-1 (deliberate damage to power facilities).

The offender is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
