Freedom is also most valuable for Ukrainians.
This is evidenced by the results of a sociological survey conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation in 2023 in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine and the ZMINA Human Rights Center with the support of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.< /p>
The study has been examining how views and understanding of human rights in Ukraine have changed since 2016.
Freedom was chosen as the greatest value by 90.7% of respondents, security by 79%, and justice by 76.1%.

Among the most important rights, citizens of our country named the right to life (89.6% of respondents), the right to liberty and security of person (65.5%), and the right to housing (58.3%).
Results of the opinion poll
The study showed that Ukrainians remain relatively passive in protecting their rights. In particular, 44% of respondents admitted that they had at least once experienced a violation of their rights.
At the same time, 48.6% of respondents did not even try to protect their rights, 33.6% tried but unsuccessfully, and 17.8% succeeded. They did this through the police (24.8%), free legal aid lawyers (20.7%) and the court (19.5%), and through the right connections or relatives (also 19.5%).

The results of preliminary surveys showed that Ukrainians have begun to turn to the police twice as often to protect their violated rights. Also, the number of those who contacted free legal aid lawyers in 2023 increased to 21% compared to 11% in 2020.
