<p>Two Tu-22M3 strategic bombers were damaged at once in the explosion at the Olenya military airfield in the Murmansk region of the Russian Federation.</p>

<p>“We are talking about an explosion above the location of the aircraft. Moreover, I can report that we are talking about damage to two sides of the Tu-22M3. And there are corresponding side numbers – side No. 33 and side No. 31. Side No. 33 is holes in the upper part of the fuselage. And side No. 31 is also certain damage,” Yusov said.</p>
<p>The GUR representative added that it could take the Russians several months to restore the bombers. Moreover, the air raid alarm at the airfield did not go off during the strike.</p>
<p>“Based on the dates, we can say that we are talking about July 25. The information was reported later, in fact, after additional verification. And indeed, on July 25, at approximately 15:47, a similar strike was recorded,” Yusov said.</p>

<p>A representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate clarified that satellite images “are not the only source of information on which to rely.”</p>
<p>“Of course, satellite images are a very important source of information, but the nature of the damage and defeat are different and this, of course, is not the only source of information that should be relied on. But the information has been confirmed from various sources, and we can already talk about the fact of this incident as something that definitely took place,” the GUR representative added.</p>

<li>The first explosions thundered at about six in the morning local time. Social media users write that they heard the sounds of at least three explosions. Local users also publish videos of drones flying towards the airfield and a photo of a column of black smoke rising above the military facility.</li>
<li>It is known that 43 centers for combat use and retraining of Russian flight personnel are stationed at this airfield. In particular, Tu-95MS, Tu-22M3, Tu-134UBL and Il-78 aircraft are based here and an aircraft repair plant is located.</li>
