The power of the wind. What about wind energy in Ukraine and the top 5 most important stations

Through Russian attacks, the power system of Ukraine will become a significant source of alternative generation ii. In addition, wind power, which, despite the great disruption associated with military operations, continues to develop.

About the plant of wind energy, the largest power plants and prospects for the near future, – in the material and RBC-Ukraine.< /p>

How the wind power industry in Ukraine was affected by the war

In the period from 2017 to 2021, Ukraine achieved the greatest increase in solar and wind energy in the 17 regions of Central Asia, the Caucasus, Piddenno-Skhidna and Skhidna Europe, up to giving 8.3 GW.

Ale zgidno from the research of the analytical center REN21 and the European Economic Commission of the United Nations, by the end of 2022, through the Russian invasion, our country has spent 90% of the wind power energy. What, however, is natural, after the number of wind power plants (WPPs) put into operation, the leaders were Zaporizka and Kherson region.

Significantly, electricity generation from renewable generators is one of the priority areas for the development and appreciation of the Ukrainian energy system. Also, this is one of the demands of Ukraine in the framework of negotiations to join the European Union. And in the minds of the war and massive Russian attacks on the station – another important aspect in the process of decentralization of the energy system.

Official data on the production of other types of generation and their role in the energy balance for 2024 is not available. As NEC “Ukrenergo” reported to RBC-Ukraine, in the hour of war, such information does not lead to discord. Therefore, the Russian side can use them to analyze and identify the main targets for terrorist attacks on energy facilities.

It is clear that in 2021 the cumulative weight of all the weight of Ukraine has become 1500 MW. And in the structure of the global electricity generation, the share of wind power stations became 2.6%. Of course, the Russian invasion, missile and drone attacks and the occupation of part of the Ukrainian territories made adjustments.

“In 2022, due to damage and loss of control, the Ukrainian energy system spent more than 1,000 MW of power. At the same time, regardless of military operations, in 2022 the power capacity increased by 46 MW. electricity generation 2022 approximately 1.5%”, – is assigned to Ukrenergo.

According to the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association (UWEA), during the two years of the large-scale war, 228 MW of new capacity was created and put into operation, of which 146.3 MW – in 2023. By the end of 2023, the reserve potential of the wind energy sector of the region will exceed 1,900 MW.

This figure also includes stations in the temporarily occupied territories without the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Then the energy system actually consumes much less. At the end of last year, all wind stations generated 583.8 MW. Remnants of over 70% of the efforts to “repair” through occupation were added to the association.

How many wind stations are in Ukraine and what the top 5 looks like

Last year, the first wind power plant was launched near the Transcarpathian region. It operates in test mode with a power of 1.8 MW, is equipped with a 4.8 MW turbine and has a height of 120 m. One such “wind turbine” can provide electricity to up to 3,000 households. It has been established that the planned capacity will be 80 MW, and it will be enough for 50,000 households.

In 2021, “green” energy will generate over 30 MW. The largest of them were Botievska, Primorska, Mirnenska, Orlivska, Over'yanivska, Novotroitska and Novoazovska stations.

Botievskaya VES is located near the village of Primorsky Posad (Melitopol district, Zaporizhzhya region). This is the largest station in Ukraine with a total capacity of 200 MW. Primorska A power plant of 200 MW was also installed in the village of Borisivka (Berdyansk district, Zaporizhzhya region). This district also has Orlivska VES. Mirny VES is located on the lands of the Mirny community near the Kherson region. Novotroitska – near the Genichny district, as well as the Over'yanivska wind station. Novoazovskaya WEIGHT – on the day of the Donetsk region.

Everything stinks under the Russian occupation, most from 2022. Therefore, today the flow of the largest wind stations looks different. Below is the current top 5 for generation obligations.

Tiligulskaya wind power plant of the DTEK company was built on the birch of the Tiligulsky estuary in the Mykolayiv region i. The planned capacity is 500 MW. The infection generates 114 MW of electrical energy.

The station was launched in 2023. During the first river, it released 333 million kWh of electricity to the Ukrainian energy system. Preparatory work will continue until the next day, and DTEK plans to complete the project by 2025.

The Dniester Wind Power Plant (WES) is located in the Bilgorod-Dnistrovsky district of the Odessa region. The station was owned by Elementum Energy, a subsidiary of American investors VR Capital.

According to Ukrenergo data, the Dniester power plant has a capacity of 100.5 MW. It is planned that 360 million kW/year of electricity will be generated on the river, and these obligations will be paid in order to provide for 180,000 households.

The Yuzhne Energy wind power plant was installed in the western part of Ukraine – in the Odessa region. Commissioned in 2021 with an installed capacity of 76.5 MW.

Orivska VES is located near Truskavets (Lviv region). This is the largest wind station in Western Ukraine with a capacity of 54.6 MW.

Nine wind turbines were installed on the Girsky ridge near the village of Oriv, 10 km from the Kiev-Chop highway or 100 km from Lviv. The skin turbine generates 5.5 MW of “green” electricity, and nine such units create the largest station in operation in the Carpathians.

The third largest wind station in Odessa region is located near Ovidiopol. Prompted by the Turkish company Güriş holding for its partnership with the American General Electric. Put into operation in 2019.

The capacity of “Ovid Wind” is 32.67 MW. The station has nine General Electric turbines with a capacity of 3.6 MW each. Using shovels at a time, the height of one wind generator can reach 200 meters in order to produce one of the largest spores in Ukraine. For example, the capital's Mother Fatherland monument is twice as low.

What are the prospects for wind energy in Ukraine

In response to the constant threat of Russian attacks, Ukraine intends to strengthen the stability of the energy system through decentralized generation. Instead of one large TPP block of 200 MW, there will be 20 small generating units of 20 MW each. The stench of pinkishness will be less disruptive to missile attacks.

Ukrenergo assesses the readiness of investors in the near future for a total of up to 1 GW of new capacity. There will be small installations of up to 10 MW in a variety of industries. The stench is likely to spread throughout the region near great places and industrial areas.

Objects of decentralized generation can be wind stations. However, the activity of their robots will significantly remain in the minds of today. Therefore, VES may be present in a complex or simultaneously with maneuvering efforts to generate electricity at any given time, if the weather does not support a high level of “green generation” generation. For example, a complex with energy storage, gas power plants and day-to-day thermal generation using biogas and fuel.

“In this way, it will be easier to strengthen the stability of the energy system, and it will be easier to transfer the fragments of the rocket into such objects, not even a large thermal or hydroelectric power station. Behind the developments of Ukrenergo, for 2-3 years of the Ukrainian energy system achieve a total of 3.5-4 GW of such generation, “The reality of this requires 5-6 billion dollars in investments,” it seems from the company.

We already know about plans to build a number of wind stations in different regions. Zokrema, recently Cherkasioblenergo and Naftogaz signed a memorandum for full work on the development of alternative sources of electricity. It turns out that in Cherkassy region there are objects with a total capacity of 160 MW.

And the German company Notus Energy has announced the beginning of the implementation of a 300 MW project in Odeshchyna. According to the words of commercial director Knud Rissell, we are planning to build 120 MW first, although we are unlikely to achieve it in the coming months. In this case, the company is talking about the presence of short-, mid- and long-term plans for projects in Ukraine.

Today, 58 wind generation projects with a total capacity of over 7 GW are in various stages. However, there are also those that are located in the currently occupied territories (up to 3 GW).

“So while the war is going on, 4-5 GW can actually be implemented. We also have a number of other projects that are being developed, However, they are at the very beginning and require the final term for final implementation. Our priority now is those projects that can be implemented quickly – within 2025-2026,” the head of the government said. nnya UVEA Andriy Konechenkov in one of his recent interviews.

During the preparation of the text, the following sources were used: Bloomberg publication, data from open sources, information from the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association (UWEA ), interview with the head of uvea Andriy Konechenkov for ” Energy Business”, a response from NEC “Ukrenergo” to RBC-Ukraine's information request.
