Czech President: World leaders should push Ukraine and Russia to negotiate even with occupation of part of the territory

After the war, Ukraine should be accepted into the EU and NATO to prevent new aggression from the Russian Federation.

The United States, together with China, the European Union and all democratic countries of the world, should push Ukraine and Russia to negotiate peace.

This opinion was voiced by Czech President Petr Pavel in the PoliTalk podcast, reported.

“I am more of the opinion that in a few years both sides will understand that it is impossible to continue the war, and negotiations will take place. In particular, a significant contribution to this What the world states must do, not only the United States, but also China, is to push both countries to negotiate politically, economically and diplomatically,” Pavel said.

According to him, Kyiv's current operation in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation could be an argument on the negotiating table and “having gained control over part of Russia's territory, it (Ukraine – Ed.) will find itself in a stronger position.”

Pavel said that a fair peace means the return of all territories of our state and compensation for the damage caused, but “the reality will be somewhat different.”

“If peace talks take place, we will most likely continue to talk for a long time about Russia's occupation of part of Ukrainian territory. From the point of view of democratic countries that declare compliance with international law and the UN Charter, it should happen that we will comply with the agreement between the warring parties,” but will not accept the change of international borders based on aggression. We will consider the territories occupied by Russia as temporarily occupied during the restoration of Ukraine's sovereignty over the territory it currently controls,” the Czech president said.

He added that Russia has the resources to fight for a long time and emphasized the support of our state from the West: “If we want to provide Ukraine with the means for effective defense, we must give it everything it needs. We must allow it to strike at the territory of the Russian Federation. Pavel believes that after the end of the war, Ukraine should be accepted into the EU and NATO to prevent a repeat invasion in the future. . But at the same time, intensive negotiations should be held with Russia to restore the security system in Europe. We somewhat underestimated this debate after the annexation of Crimea in 2014,” the Czech leader said.
