Ministry of Internal Affairs: After November 25, citizens will be able to declare unregistered weapons

This is how the Ministry of Internal Affairs commented on the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the law on improving the procedure for obtaining, declaring and handling firearms.

Bohdan Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Bohdan Drapyaty said on the air of the telethon that after November 25, citizens will be able to declare unregistered weapons and leave them for storage, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.

“As a result of Russia’s war against Ukraine, which has been going on for about 10 years, Ukrainian citizens may be found to have unregistered weapons issued by the security and defense forces. That is why the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law on Simplifying the Declaration of Firearms. This document stipulates that a citizen who has found or has unregistered weapons must contact the National Police to declare them. After a person declares a weapon, he will have the right to keep it during martial law and use it in the event of resistance to armed aggression,” Bohdan Drapyaty noted.

He noted that after the end of martial law, as well as 90 days later, the citizen will have to return the weapon received from the security and defense forces, because it is state property. And he will be able to recycle the found and declared weapon into those types of firearms that will be allowed in civilian circulation.

“In this way, the state will be able to protect people from criminal liability for illegal possession of weapons, and on the other hand, for law enforcement agencies this will be an additional basis for proper control over the weapons that our citizens have,” added the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
