Umerov and von der Leyen open EU Defence Innovation Office in Ukraine

Ukraine and the EU are thus strengthening cooperation in the defense sector.

Ursula von der Leyen and Ursula von der Leyen, together with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, opened the EU Defense Innovation Office in Ukraine.

According to Umerov, the main focus of this cooperation will be to combine efforts to strengthen defense capability.

“We pay special attention to joint developments in the IT sector and weapons production, which will be decisive for defeating Russian aggression,” the minister noted.

Umerov said that over the past two and a half years, Ukraine has become a world leader in drone technology.

“Today, more than 500 Ukrainian drone manufacturers and thousands of developers are creating advanced solutions for combat operations. With an annual production capacity of up to 3 million drones, Ukraine has established itself as a true defense technology center. Our country has enormous potential in defense technologies, and I urge our European partners to invest in Ukrainian manufacturers,” the Defense Minister emphasized.

He recalled that the IT coalition operating within the framework of Rammstein has already attracted more than 70 million euros from 13 participating countries. And the drone coalition, which includes 16 participating countries, has provided more than 500 million euros in funding and donated thousands of drones to Ukraine. Ursula von der Leyen is visiting Ukraine on September 20. It has now become known that the EU will provide Ukraine with 35 billion in loans using frozen Russian funds.
