Zelensky on Trump: He Really Doesn't Know How to Stop the War

The proposal to sacrifice territories, which is being voiced by Trump's team, creates dangerous precedents in other regions of the world.

Don Don >Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the statements of US presidential candidate Donald Trump after the end of the war in Ukraine.

In an interview with The New Yorker, Zelensky said calls to end the war are uniting the world, but “the scary question is: Who will bear the cost of ending the war?”

“Some might say that the Minsk agreements either stopped or froze the fighting at some point. But they also gave the Russians a chance to arm themselves even better and solidify their false claims to our occupied territories,” the Ukrainian President noted.

“With this war, often the deeper you get into it, the less you understand. I've seen many leaders who were convinced they knew how to end it tomorrow, and as they got deeper into it, they realized it wasn't that easy,” the President said.

Zelensky believes that the statement by Trump and his vice presidential candidate “appears to be that Ukraine must make a sacrifice” and stressed that peace at the expense of our state is unacceptable.

“It would be a terrible idea if someone really wanted to do it, to force Ukraine to bear the costs of ending the war by giving up its territory. But that could certainly never happen. Such a scenario would have no basis in international norms,” in the UN Charter, in justice. And it would not necessarily end the war. These are slogans,” the head of state believes. politicians with such slogans.

“[Vance and others who share his views] must clearly understand that the moment they start trading our territory, they start mortgaging American interests elsewhere: for example, in the Middle East, as well as in Taiwan and in US relations with China… I do not take Vance's words seriously, because if this were a plan, then America is moving towards a global conflict. Such an unspoken rule: I came, I won, now it's mine,” Zelensky said.
