Media: US $375 million military aid package for Ukraine could be announced tomorrow

The package will likely include air-to-ground munitions for F-16 fighters.

The Pentagon is expected to announce a new military aid package for Ukraine this week worth up to $375 million, the largest aid sent to Kyiv since May.

This is reported by the Voice of America, citing US officials.

They said the aid to Ukraine was expected to be announced as early as tomorrow. One official said the package would likely include air-to-ground munitions for F-16 fighters, allowing Ukrainian pilots to operate far from the front lines and Russian air defenses.

The package also includes ammunition for HIMARS, patrol boats and armored vehicles, as well as 155mm shells, 105mm shells and TOW missiles.

The package, which is still being approved and could change, is provided under presidential authority that allows the Pentagon to direct aid to Ukraine directly from its military stockpile.

The Pentagon still has $5 billion for Ukraine

The U.S. Department of Defense has more than $5 billion left of the $61 billion in funding for Ukraine that President Joe Biden signed into law in April, which could run out at the end of this month. The Pentagon says it is working with Congress to roll over the remaining funding into the next U.S. fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1.

Officials have said they are working on alternative plans if Congress does not approve an extension before the end of the fiscal year.
