“Russia's cruel treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war is absolute barbarity, a gross violation of international humanitarian law, the laws and customs of war,” the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
Sybiha emphasized that the executions of Ukrainian prisoners are becoming more frequent. According to the UN, 95% of prisoners of war are tortured and denied basic needs.
The head of the Foreign Ministry called on the international community to take immediate measures – issue warrants for the arrest of Russian criminals by the International Criminal Court, increase sanctions pressure, demand access for international observers and doctors to places of detention, and facilitate the release of prisoners of war and all illegally detained persons.
