Deputy Chairman of the OP: the issue of opening an airport in Ukraine is still on hold. Viktor Nikita

The issue of opening an airport in Ukraine is currently on hold. The most remote Ukrainian airport, Uzhgorod, was transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs – they plan to create a European hub for civil defense aviation there.

Deputy Head of the Presidential Office for Regional Policy Viktor Nikita spoke about this in an interview with LB.ua. He explained that the airport in Uzhgorod could provide irregular flights. charter public flights.

“The policy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs allows this. The State Emergency Service is civil aviation, not military. There can't be military aircraft there, the logistics are generally poor,” he said.

However, the distance must be taken into account: it's 800 km from the Ukrainian capital to the Zakarpattia region. Sometimes it's more convenient to get to Poland by train and fly from there than to go to Uzhgorod.

“We need to build a road, improve the rail link,” he explained.

In March 2024, Ukraine officially began negotiations on resuming air traffic with European and Ukrainian companies.
