The United States no longer objects to inviting Ukraine to NATO. The change in the US position may further influence Berlin's opinion, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to Le Monde.

The publication noted that US President Joe Biden discussed a plan for Ukraine's victory with the leaders of Germany, France and Great Britain in Berlin on Friday. As it turned out, the US, which together with Germany blocked steps to allow Ukraine to join NATO, now fundamentally does not object to simply inviting Kyiv to the Alliance.

Several anonymous Le Monde sources believe that a change in Washington's position could also change the opinion of Berlin, which opposes Ukraine's inclusion in NATO.

On Saturday, a meeting of the G7 defense ministers was held. The head of the Italian Defense Ministry, which holds the G7 presidency this year, Guido Crosetto, said in a speech to his colleagues that the global security system is becoming increasingly precarious due to different visions of the world, Reuters writes.

The Italian minister recalled the war in Ukraine, called the situation in the Middle East critical, as well as deep instability in sub-Saharan Africa and growing tensions in the Indo-Pacific region. All this underscores the “deterioration of the security structure,” Crosetto noted.

Crosetto warned that the short-term outlook for global security “cannot be positive” and said tensions were being fueled by a confrontation between “two different, possibly incompatible, worldviews.”

According to the Italian minister, on the one hand there are countries and organizations that believe in a world order based on international law, while “on the other hand (there are) those who systematically disrespect democracy in order to achieve their goal, in particular through the deliberate use of military force.”

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov also joined the meeting in Naples.

In their final declaration, the G7 defense ministers supported Ukraine on its irreversible path to full Euro-Atlantic integration, including NATO membership.
