The situation with internally displaced persons in Ukraine is worsening – people are returning to the occupied territory.

This was reported by Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets at the summit “(Ro)united: Rethinking Public Resilience in Ukraine”.

The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights added that he informed the Cabinet of Ministers about this problem.

How the state is losing IDPs

“Today, the situation is getting worse – the number of IDPs is decreasing, because they are returning to the TOT of Ukraine and frontline cities due to socio-economic difficulties in their new location! This is a cause for serious concern. I raised this issue at the government level. The state should directly state what kind of financial assistance a person can count on so that he has confidence in his future,” the ombudsman said.

Lubinets also reported that the results of a study on the polarization of Ukrainian society were presented at the summit. They demonstrate that there is no division or polarization of Ukrainian society as such, the ombudsman added.
