The American Fox News channel in Washington claims that the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Committee opposed US President Joe Biden's permission for Ukraine to use the weapons delivered deep into Russian territory.
The Pentagon and intelligence are convinced that the ATACMS systems are no longer capable of changing the strategic course of the war, since 90% of Russian aircraft are beyond the range of the systems. “The belief that this would be a solution to the bombing problem is wrong,” the report for the White House states.
The Defense Ministry also notes that the number of ATACMS in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine is insufficient to significantly influence the situation: the United States allegedly cannot provide Kyiv with more systems without reducing its own level of protection.
Washington continues to view Russia as a “nuclear force capable of causing irreparable damage to Ukraine and the United States.”
